A furious mum has hit out at the "oblivious" drink-driver who put her young son in hospital for a week. The woman, who was almost twice the drink-drive limit left the the schoolboy with a broken leg, which required six hours of emergency surgery.

Bobby Figiel-Washington had to have four screws fitted and spend his school summer holiday on crutches after being hit by the 57-year-old motorist's car in Close Lane, Alsager. The collision happened in July as Bobby was walking home from the shop with his sister Kacey, 15, StokeonTrentLive reports.

His mum, Chantelle Figiel, said: "There were two old women on the pavement, so he went round a van that was parked at the side of the road. As he got near the pavement, a car has gone past him and run over his left leg. He had an open fracture. He was lying on the floor when I got out there and his bone was out of his skin."

Chantelle continued: "That night we went to Alder Hey Children's Hospital and he had emergency surgery for six hours. We were in there for a week and now it's just ongoing. We have to go every Thursday."

The 33-year-old pub worker said the incident ruined her son's 10th birthday celebrations, adding: "It has affected Bobby massively." She said it was "a joke" that the motorist had only been handed a three-year driving ban and 100 hours community service after admitting drink-driving at South Cheshire Magistrates' Court.

She said: "I'm furious she only got 100 hours unpaid work. She has not even apologised. She has had the chance to say sorry and chosen not to.

"I just can't believe what she's done. She was just oblivious. It's really upset me. It just should not have happened."
