Disabled man tortured & killed by 'barbaric monster' looking for cash from his mum's will

Jul 04, 2023

A DISABLED man was murdered in a horror torture attack in a bid to get cash from his mum’s will, shattered loved ones revealed.

William Duncan, 55, suffered “hell” while being gagged, stabbed, battered and suffocated by Mark McConville, 39.

And after the thug was caged for at least 18 years, the victim’s sister-in-law Ann Duncan, 52, said: “He’s a barbaric monster.”

A trial heard how McConville targeted William at his home in Shettleston, Glasgow.

The monster slashed the ex-taxi driver’s neck with a blade then trussed him up with ligatures and stuck a sock in his mouth.

Evil McConville also put a pillowcase over William’s head between January 21 and February 3 last year.

It’s thought the helpless victim was lifted into his bedroom with his crutches left elsewhere — meaning he could not escape.

Sickened relative Ann, of Gartcosh, Lanarkshire, said: “William’s mother had died a few months earlier and he was due to receive about £2,500 from the estate.

“We think he told McConville about the windfall — he was desperate for friends and would tell folk about any cash he had.

"But there was a hold-up due to red tape and the cash hadn’t come through by the time he was killed.”

The support worker added: “We’re convinced McConville got tired of waiting and subjected William to this brutal end. His last moments must have been hell.

“William had health issues but was generous to a fault. The family has been left with a lifetime of trauma because of this.”

The High Court in Edinburgh was told cops forced entry to William’s home and found his body lying face-down on a bed, with his wrists bound with laces.

The victim’s arms were tied up with cable, a cord was round his neck and a pillowslip was over his head.

A wet, bloodstained sock was also found in his mouth. Pathologists said the gag led to him choking to death.

McConville had denied murder but was convicted by a jury and caged last month by Judge Lord Armstrong.

He said: “I have no doubt that William’s relatives are deeply affected by this and that, I suspect, no sentence will be sufficient in their eyes.”
